Advancing care for Adolescents and Young Adults with CNS Tumors – the Canadian Experience by Dr Bennett, Julie

Adolescents and young adults (AYA) with CNS tumors are an orphan population with limited insights into epidemiology, tumor biology and treatment outcomes. In this talk, Drs. Bennett and Lim-Fat will review emerging data regarding biologic insights and treatment outcomes for CNS tumors in AYA. They will also present a novel initiative started in Canada – the Canadian AYA Neuro-Oncology Network (CANON), an initiative to improve and standardize care for AYAs with CNS tumors.

Early-Onset and AYA Central Nervous System Tumors: A Hong Kong Case Series by Dr Lam, Eric

This presentation highlights the journey of two young adult patients diagnosed with brain cancer, illustrating the challenges in treatment. Both patients presented with severe symptoms, including seizures, and underwent extensive diagnostic and treatment. Both undergone critical interventions like surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, to manage progression and recurrence. The focus remains on personalized care, balancing clinical recommendations with patient preferences and conditions. These 2 illustrations serve a good example of cancer treatment journey in young adults and the associated significant changes in their lives.
